Duncan Murray Wines is 25 years old this December 2026.
We can’t quite believe we’re reaching this milestone. We still feel like relative new kids on the block, and even though the grey hairs and wrinkles are definitely telling us we’re no longer boy (or girl) band material, we still hold firm to our first principle, “to create a shop we’d like to shop in”.
What does this principle mean for shopping at Duncan Murray Wines?
Well, from the get-go we wanted to make everyone feel welcome, to give no-nonsense advice, to do our best to help everyone find the best bottle for them, and to offer something different – drinks with stories, character and a sense of place. In other words, wine, beers and spirits with bags of personality.
We also believe it’s important to taste what we offer which is why we hold Free Saturday Tastings and ticketed tasting masterclasses. We know this helps people identify which drinks they most enjoy and can open the door to new tastes. We love it when we introduce a customer to something they never expected to love and they start smiling with unanticipated pleasure and surprise.
During our 25 years of trading this has meant thousands of conversations at the counter, over 1,000 Free Saturday Tastings and contact with generations of customers. The youngest person we’ve had in the shop was just a few days old… she’s now 21 and loves a glass of crisp white wine!
What all this boils down to is the importance of relationships to Duncan, Megan and the team. We wouldn’t be here without the trust and support of our customers, and the thought of forging new shop friends keeps us enthused.
So, how are we celebrating?
We’re kicking off our celebrations with a name the beer competition. We’ve teamed up with Braybrooke Beer Co. and need you to create a name for our birthday beer. The winner will get a 24-bottle case of the birthday beer and a VIP tour and tasting at Braybrooke Brewery. The winning beer will be launched in October. As Christmas approaches, watch out for world exclusive birthday wine and gin arriving on our shelves.
And the celebrations will continue into 2027 with the launch of our brand new ‘Wine Demystified’ evenings. If you’ve ever looked at a wine label and wondered what it all means, struggled to describe the wines you enjoy or simply wanted to feel more confident choosing a bottle, this relaxed two and a half hour course is for you.
